About RCGD Global: RCGD Global is an internationally recognized organization that combines the worlds of fashion and sustainability. Currently in its seventh year, the campaign was conceived by Suzy Amis Cameron during the press tour for husband James Cameron’s film Avatar. Her hope was to draw attention to the importance of more sustainable practices in fashion. It challenges designers from around the world to think about fashion in an eco friendly platform. The campaign also raises funds for MUSE School CA, a non profit educational organization that Amis Cameron cofounded in Malibu Canyon.

About Vivienne Westwood: Vivienne Westwood began designing in 1971, and by the end of the 1970s, she was already considered a symbol of the British avantgarde. For Autumn/Winter 1981, Westwood showed her first catwalk presentation in London. In 1986, a radical change of direction moved Westwood away from street style and youth culture as she adopted more traditional Savile Row tailoring techniques. Since then, Westwood has received numerous accolades, continues to show in Paris, Milan and London, and is one of the most influential fashion designers in the world today. She uses the medium of her shows to talk about culture and politics, more specifically about the urgent need to act against climate change.

About Galvan: A desire for a new kind of evening wear – modern, clean, cool – lies at the heart of Galvan. Founded in 2014, the London based ready-to-wear brand is the brainchild of four women from the worlds of fashion and contemporary art: AnnaChristin Haas, Sola Harrison, Katherine Holmgren and Carolyn Hodler. Since its launch Galvan has quickly grown to become a favorite with celebrities, such as Sienna Miller and Jennifer Lawrence, and is sold through over 40 leading department stores and boutiques worldwide including Opening Ceremony, Bergdorf Goodman, and Neiman Marcus.

About Earth Friendly Products: Family owned and operated since 1967, Earth Friendly Products is the maker of ECOS™ Laundry Detergent, Baby ECOS™ cleaners and over 200 other environmentally friendly cleaners that are safer for people, pets and the planet. RCGD Global Opens 2015 Oscars Design Competition To Kickoff This Year’s Campaign

Los Angeles, CA, December 15, 2014 – Today Suzy Amis Cameron, founder of Red Carpet

Green Dress, opens this year’s campaign by inviting designers to enter the competition for a

chance to see their design worn on the red carpet at the 87th Annual Academy Awards® on

Sunday, February 22, 2015.

“The opening of the competition is always exciting, because it’s incredible to see the

different ways these promising designers approach the project and express themselves

through design,” explains Amis Cameron. “I’m also happy to announce we’ll be continuing

with the menswear category that we introduced last year.”

Designers who wish to enter must submit a sketch of a red carpet gown or a tuxedo, along

with an explanation of how their design would be made sustainably. Two winners will be

chosen and paired with established designers who will mentor them through the creation of

their designs. Last year, Alice Elia, a fashion student at ESMOD-ISEM in Paris, was the victor of the

women’s category and was thrilled to watch actress Olga Kurylenko saunter down the red

carpet in her design. The men’s category was won by New Zealand-based designer

Jomnarn Dul whose design was based on a silhouette she had created for a collaboration

between H Brothers, one of New Zealand’s most iconic menswear brands, and

EKOCYCLE, a partnership between and The Coca-Cola Company.

Kurylenko’s gown was made from 100% GOTS certified organic peace silk and 100%

GOTS certified organic silk. It was first hand-dyed with Sappanwood – a legume which

produces a reddish-colored dye and is sustainable due to its fast growth rate – then

overdyed with madder root to give it a deeper shade of red. Her shoes were a first time

collaboration between RCGD Global and Beyond Skin, a UK-based ethical

footware and fashion label. The vegan, faux suede, metallic-trimmed shoes are made from

Dinamica, a durable material made in Italy from 100% recycled bottle tops.

Lutz’s tuxedo jacket was 45% certified silk and 55% rPET (from post-waste recycled

plastic bottles). His pants were made of hemp and plant-dyed with logwood. The

waistcoat was made of hemp and 100-year-old spitalfield silk (from French Huguenots

who begin silk trade in London), and was dyed with marigold flowers. The tuxedo was

made under the mentorship of Prophetik designer Jeff Garner.

RCGD Global raises funds for MUSE School CA, the single beneficiary of the

campaign. MUSE School CA is a non-profit, educational organization in Calabasas,

California, dedicated to inspiring and preparing young people to live consciously with

themselves, one another, and the planet. The deadline for entries is Monday, January 5th

2015 and the entry fee is $30 – proceeds raised through the campaign go towards

sponsoring children to attend MUSE School CA and MUSE Global.

Suzy Amis Cameron is the mind behind RCGD Global – the initiative she launched in 2009 to promote sustainable red carpet fashion – and now it looks like the author and campaigner will turn designer herself.

There are no photos with those IDs or post 1380 does not have any attached images!

“I really want to find clothes that I can wear and am also at a place of desperation that is driving towards research and developing my own clothing line,” confesses Cameron who, until now, has worked more in an ambassadorial role herself, seeking out new design talent in the process. “When I founded RCGD Global, my aim was to wear one sustainable gown to the Avatar premier and make an important statement.” And the way she did that was by inviting budding designers to create something for her. The project has come on leaps and bounds since then – Samata Angel, pictured with Cameron here, was the winner in 2011 and now heads up the campaign along with Cameron.

“We wanted to give the winning designer the opportunity to work with an established fashion house to deliver a gown that would hold its own on the red carpet at the Oscars. Vivienne Westwood was a dream to work with and had a huge interest in sourcing sustainable fabrics,” she recollects.

Up next year is the addition of a menswear element to the competition, as well as a series of auctions.
