Podcasts are seeing an enormous surge in popularity at the moment, and if you are on the hunt for some informed business listening, or keen to learn about how to establish, grow and successfully run your own business, rest assured there are literally thousands of podcasts ready and able to tick these boxes. However, it’s clear that in times like these, this kind of content carries a great deal more weight, particularly as businesses around the globe face harsh realities. Millions of small business owners are feeling isolated and desperate, as the current global situation keeps many from opening their doors to customers. The coronavirus pandemic has plunged the $2.5tn (£2tn) global fashion industry into crisis with a “significant number” of firms expected to go bust in the next 18 months, putting millions of jobs at risk. Global fashion sales are predicted to fall by up to 30% in 2020 and the luxury end of the market will be even harder hit, with sales slumping by up to 40%, according to a bleak report by the Business of Fashion (BoF) and consultants McKinsey.
Even business owners who can power through these tough times, see that finding some balance or sense of normalcy in this chaos is no easy task. That’s why we would like to share some of our favourite podcasts for entrepreneurs or business owners looking for useful insight. If you’re unsure which podcasts to listen to, take a look at these suggestions as a starter. There is no large or small business focus in particular with these, simply a great coverage of topics which are more relevant now than ever.
The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that although living disparate realities, we are all in this together. Every single person on the planet is uncertain about what lies ahead in the next weeks or months, with no idea of how long the quarantine measures will last. What’s more, it’s hard to figure out what the world will look like on the other side of this pandemic. These are all situations that can easily lead to anxiety, but instead of spiralling, we have an alternative suggestion. Make some time to listen to the experts. We have discovered that plenty of business, retail, and fashion-oriented podcasts have made a turn in these weeks to cover essential tips and ways to cope during the pandemic. You’ll find some of our favorites below!

Understandably, as the industry deals with an unprecedented crisis during the novel coronavirus, they’re dedicating time to finding solutions for this time. The episode released on March 17 provided some great insight from Edited data, as told by their Research and Analysis Director Rebecca Milne.
In this fantastic episode, you can hear a breakdown of the hard figures about how COVID-19 is impacting the global fashion industry. From the data collected on Edited, the team has also crafted a few strategies to help businesses prevail during these trying times, translating overwhelming statistics to tangible action points.
2. Support is Sexy
Created and hosted by media entrepreneur, author, speaker, and coach Elayne Fluker, the Support is Sexy podcast is a hub for women entrepreneurs. Elayne interviews women in business about their journeys, sharing deeply inspiring stories of how they got to where they are and being brutally honest about the challenges they faced.
During the pandemic, the podcast has released several episodes covering different areas of the crisis. For example, the April 17 episode talks about the financial support resources available for small business owners, contractors, and individuals during the pandemic. There are also recent episodes on homeschooling children and even managing stress and anxiety during the outbreak.
3. Business of Fashion
The Business of Fashion website has traditionally focused on providing authoritative and well-researched news and think pieces on fashion, a notion that translates well into its podcast, which is hosted by Editor-in-Chief Imran Amed. Now, BoF is one of the best resources we have right now to learn about the impact that COVID-19 is having on our industry.
The BoF podcast has released plenty of coronavirus-focused episodes in the past couple of months, but the March 13 one seems particularly poignant. Featuring retail futurist Doug Stephens as a special guest, the chapter focuses on the mindset that fashion companies should avoid during this crisis to stay afloat. They also open a conversation on what to expect from consumer behaviour during the crisis and beyond.
4. Marketing School
Hosted by Neil Patel and Eric Siu, Marketing School is a podcast dedicated to helping businesses of all sizes navigate their marketing. They build on the idea of growing a business through robust marketing strategies and engagement. While it might not seem like a priority, how brands manage their image during a time of crisis can make or break their survival. Panic has taken hold of millions of people around the world, and if there’s one thing that brands can do to help is keeping their cool.
A daily podcast, you will find a dedicated number of episodes on how brands can deal with the current crisis, from a smart marketing point of view. One of the most interesting ones came out on April 28, talking about the kind of content businesses should create in harsh times. The episode focuses on agility and responsiveness to the general mood of customers. It is an excellent starting point to figuring out how to deal with communications when the economy (and people) are as fragile as they are now.
5. 2x eCommerce
Brick and mortar shops everywhere in the world have had to close their doors as the pandemic runs its course. While we know this situation will not last forever, most small businesses can’t afford to stay closed for months on end. So, understandably, many business owners are thinking of embracing more impactful eCommerce strategies. For those looking to get started, 2x eCommerce provides a fantastic resource with plenty of tips and walkthroughs.
Hosted by Kunle Campbell, the podcast talks about rapid growth and scale in online retail. Regularly showcasing models of online retail, they invite successful business owners to discuss their experiences, as well as the innovation and technology that brought them where they are now.
Aware of the recent surge of interest in eCommerce, the podcast is currently releasing a series dedicated to COVID-19. The focus is on navigating the most effective actions and behaviors for eCommerce users during this crisis. Campbell interviews industry experts to discuss the best courses of action, covering critical topics like resilient supply chain and payments. This April 2 episode is particularly useful, leveraging case studies to demonstrate how online retail is being used to survive during the crippling outbreak.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on workers and industries across the board yet retail is undoubtedly among the hardest-hit. These days, the owners of different-sized retailers are revealing strategies for weathering the business storm during this current pandemic. Don’t miss out on the two April episodes, which interview the CEO and founder of fashion brand Stella & Dot and the founder and president of t-shirt company Fright-Rags.
