Los Angeles, CA, February 10, 2014 – Actor Jake McDorman will represent Suzy Amis Cameron’s eco-fashion campaign, RCGD Global, at the 87th Annual Academy Awards on February 22nd by wearing the campaign’s second tuxedo. McDorman will wear a design by Tingting Chen, a fashion student at ESMOD- ISEM in Paris, whose entry won the category.
The campaign added a menswear category last year to mark the campaign’s fifth anniversary. “I felt it made sense to add menswear last year as a way of growing the campaign and continuing to spread its message”, explains Amis Cameron, “and Jake is a fantastic actor so I’m delighted he’ll be wearing Tingting’s design for us this year.”McDorman can be seen opposite Bradley Cooper in one of the year’s biggest films, Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, which carries six Oscar nominations including Best Picture.
His character, Navy SEAL Ryan “Biggles” Job, Kyle’s Cooper’s beloved comrade, provided comic relief and helped to establish the film’s heart. He’s also starred in ABC’s Manhattan Love Story, Showtime’s Shameless opposite Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy, Are You There, Chelsea? with Chelsea Handler and Laura Prepon, and had a supporting role in Live Free or Die Hard with Bruce Willis. A Dallas native, McDorman studied acting at the Dallas Young Actors Studio and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17 to pursue acting. “I’m really excited to be attending my first Oscars ceremony in support of a film I’m really proud of, and to also be supporting a message of sustainability by wearing an environmentally-friendly tuxedo by Tingting Chen for Red Carpet Green Dress makes it pretty overwhelming, ” says McDorman. He currently divides his time between Los Angeles and New York City.
McDorman will be joined on the carpet by actor Gina Rodriguez who will be supporting the campaign by wearing a sustainable gown.
Contest winner for tuxedo design, Tingting Chen, is in her third and final year at ESMOD-ISEM in Paris where she transferred after studying at the University of Beijing. Chen’s focus is Menswear, and she’s currently working her final collection. She’s demonstrated an aptitude for finding new volumes, bringing a fresh interpretation to menswear, and dreams of one day establishing her own brand in the style of Yohji Yamamoto, her favorite designer.
Jeff Garner will mentor Chen through the creation of her tuxedo. Garner is an American designer best known for his use of hand-loomed, plant-dyed, red carpet designs which boast natural fabrics such as hemp, flax, dupioni silk, spitafield silk, and organic cotton. A regular at London Fashion Week, Garner has designed red carpet looks for the likes of Cameron Diaz, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus and Sheryl Crow through his label, Prophetik. His 2012 Oscar creation for Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding made a splash and was ranked as one of the top 10 Oscar gowns that year by Vogue. A few of Garner’s previous accolades include being named 2013 Up-and-Coming Designer of the Year at Paris Fashion Week, a 2012 induction into the Smithsonian Museum for designs that remain on permanent exhibition at the Renwick Gallery, and the title of Eco Designer of the Year by GQ Magazine in 2010.
This year’s campaign is sponsored by Audi and Lux & Eco. Additional support was provided by the generous donation of work by artist Jason Decaires Taylor. Proceeds generated by RCGD Global continue to benefit MUSE School CA, a non-profit educational organization that Amis Cameron co-founded with her sister, Rebecca Amis, in Calabasas, CA.
